Lidar/Slam on iPhone 15 Pro

Hello!

My old iPhone stopped working as it should so I had to get a new one so it fell on a iPhone 15 Pro that have Lidar.

And I had to try it out for work related use.

I found the app RTAB, it uses lidar and slam computation. After adjusting some settings it worked well.

It does NOT replace photogrammetry but it’s a nice complement for smaller areas.

Found a very interesting YouTube video where a guy compared handheld scan with a gimbal scan. Having the phone in a gimbal helped a lot since he removed the hand-shakes and therefore got better IMU data when scanning.

There’s also RTAB for windows that can be used for post processing.

Successfully scanned my apartment but will need a scan at work with known points to know how accurate it is.

There’s som similarities to ODM in post processing like “Sift” and Bundle adjustment.

Sadly no geo referencing but that can be done in CloudCompare.

RTAB-Map combines IMU, LiDAR and image data somehow, it’s very interesting.
