I’m a retired programmer. I mostly did device drivers, networking, and other kernel type work. Mostly in C. I do a lot of Ruby for fun. And I do a lot of photography with a focus recently on birding but I prefer landscapes. I currently live in Cedar Park which is just north of Austin.
The reason I’m here is I got this “genius idea” of using my drone to take images and then those images could help me add features to Open Street Maps. So I went to new development and took a bunch of photos with my drone looking straight down. I’m using a DJI Mavic 4 Pro. But then I discovered that this isn’t so simple. The images are tagged with the GPS coordinates but they do not have the direction / heading. And, of course, the scale is unknown. I posted a question on the OSM community and someone suggested using Open Drone Map so I looked at that page and I see various tools but I thought I would come here and introduce myself and ask for some tips.
I’ve also been told about Open Aerial Maps which I’m happy to contribute to. All this is just for fun.
