DJI Mini 3 Flight Planning

Hey y’all,

I’m a GIS student looking to learn more about drone mapping. I have a dji mini 3 that I found cheap used. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with some non-enterprise solutions for flight planning?

From what I’ve read I can use Litchi Pilot Beta on an android phone to upload custom flight paths. And I can generate them using ancient.land? Ancient.land doesn’t support the mini 3 but I assume the mini 2 is similarly enough spec’ed to use its profile?

Has anyone used any other flight planning software? Are these flight paths something I can generate easily with some python code? Or are there any free or cheap GIS programs that can solve this task?

I’m fairly clueless but am willing to learn from anyone who has had success!

Seems that Litchi can’t match mini3;we use Mavic 3 instead and it‘s really convenience, if you want to use some test data to learn;give me a email address,I can offer some to you

Map Pilot Pro for Android. Free Version is limited to a simple Grid Route.

You can use the Dronelink app for android devices. It supports DJI Mini 3.

I’ve used the following with a mini 4 pro/rc2 controller and processed with WebODM with success. Should work same for a mini 3

DJI Mapper webpage version
GitHub - YarosMallorca/DJI-Mapper: A cross-platform tool download version

There is also waypointmap dot com but I have not tried that one yet.

Biggest hurdle is once you start going over about 100 waypoints you start to have problems and zooming in and out screen becomes problematic. Make sure obstacle avoidance is on by-pass versus halt or you will be guessing where to restart if it stops.

Yes. Too many waypoints crashes the controller on the Mini 4 pro as well. @ivangayton is working on some tooling around this, so maybe we’ll have some solutions soon.

Is there a way to add custom aircraft presets? What is different between each model in litchi? Id imagine that using the ‘wrong’ aircraft just will give me inaccurate GSD info unless there is something different in how each model handles waypoint code.

Does map pilot pro support newer drones like the Mini 3? It seems like a pretty affordable option but they don’t specify which aircraft are compatible. Do you use their post processing for making maps? Or is it worth it to just use Map Pilot Pro without using maps made easy?

Dronelink seems like the solution for if/when I begin getting income from this. But at the moment I’m looking for some more economical solutions.

Here is a link to the supported hardware. Yes, the Mini 3 is on the list.
