WebODM, Cannot process Dataset

Hello everyone, hopefully you’re all doing well. I have been trying to process a dataset of 865 images taken on DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced by using its “DJI Mission Flight” software to map an area containing multiple single-story buildings. The mission parameters are as follows:

  • Height = 400ft
  • Gimbal Piitch Angle = -55 Degrees

Arguments for data processing:
auto-boundary: true, dsm: true, dtm: true, feature-quality: medium, mesh-octree-depth: 12, mesh-size: 300000, split: 100, split-overlap: 20, use-3dmesh: true

I have been facing the “Cannot Process Dataset” error multiple times, I have tried using different browsers (Firefox & Chrome) but to no avail. I also planned a new flight mission with ~1100 images but I get the same error.
I am using Docker on windows at the moment

Computer Specs:

  • Windows 10
  • RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
  • 16 GB RAM (12 GB for Docker)
  • 2TB SSD
  • Intel Core i9 11th Gen Laptop CPU

I would guess it’s to little ram but it’s not obvious

Most likely failing due to the split/split-overlap not being optimal.

Can you try with defaults to make sure it will process to completion?

Comparing to some of my tests:
Processed 750 images (20MPx) taken with a P4 using “DSM+DTM” settings and the peak RAM consumption was 228GB.
Processed 285 images (9MPx) with default “Default” settings and the peak RAM consumption was 8GB.

My bet is your problem is insufficient RAM.
There’s a past thread discussing splitting - on a single machine splitting really doesn’t help much because the split pieces all have to be glued together on that machine, so it still needs lots of RAM.

I tried it today without splitting the dataset but after almost 11 hours it failed with the same error. Could the issue be the RAM? I turned the feature-quality to LOW this time.

It’s likely both RAM and split related, yeah. Hopefully you get enough features on low!

Have you tried processing only 200 or 300 images to see if it completes successfully?
That would help confirm you’re running out of RAM with 865 images.
