I have been building and flying drones for about 5 years. I live in Maine. I use drones for mapping ecological communities. I scan images for biodiversity hotspots by using pixel color heterogeneity as a surrogate for habitat diversity. It seems to work! When you do biological surveys in areas with the highest pixel diversity, you find more biological species than in areas with low pixel class diversity. So that is what I am up to in a nutshell.
