Thermal Radiometric Processing Zenmuse XTR

I am not trying to hijack your thread at all, but I have thermal processing challenges as well. I AM able to create Orthos, I am NOT able to produce any file that has radiometric indexing. The output file in Pix4D is found in the projects Indicies folder. The file that I am able to import into Qgis from Pix4D is named *Thermal_index_thermal_ir.tif This file contains radiometric data. I can see the values with a plugin called ValueTool. So I am saying these things because unless I do not understand, the OP and I both thought we would be able to process the radiometric thermal images and have an Ortho with radiometric information. I think I must be missing an output step of some sort. I am going to post my settings to try to help the OP be able to get as far as creating an Ortho. The problem is that all that is being created is an RGB Ortho. PLEASE tell me I am doing something wrong and hopefully it is a common solution for both me and the OP. If you think this should be a separate thread, then I can do that. BTW, Zenmuse XTR 640x480.

I have not seen an admin say that we cannot create indexed thermal maps. I would like to know if anyone has been able to create a thermal map. I have had no trouble with creating an ortho from the thermals. Also chose camera for radiometric_calibration: If we were not able to produce radiometric maps then I would not imagine the option being available. If we cannot, that’s fine. What needs to happen to develop? I would be so happy for a positive result here. I will do what I am able to help.

I had some experience to process H20T thermal images using ODM. One way is to first pre-calibrate the raw thermal images (Radiometric JPEG) into TIFF files with the temperature values, then feed them into ODM to create a grayscale orthomosaic. From the posted EXIF, it seems the XTR is using similar parameters for radiometric calibration. You may need to set skip-band-alignment: true.

Thank you so much for the thoughts. I tried to dupicate then run a dataset using
dem-resolution: 2, orthophoto-resolution: 2, pc-quality: high, radiometric-calibration: camera, skip-band-alignment: true

I still get a good looking orth, just does not have radiometric info. Are you saying that you were able to get ODM to create an indexed map? Did you convert rjpegs to Tif and if so, how did you do it? Do you mind sharing?

One way is to use Thermoconverter app. I’ve tried the trial version and it does the trick. I’ve opened DJI R-JPEG on Flir tools and could see data… Thermoconverter is a bit expensive. I’m talking with a guy who have done a script to convert this, hope he could share it with us.

Or if anyone in the WebODM community done that, could it be shared?

I’ve done the conversion and at this moment I’m running a batch with the inputs you have.

There is a discussion in the exiftool forum for DJI Zenmuse H20T images. It might be working for other DJI thermal images as well. You can also look at the official DJI Thermal SDK.

Note if you precalibrate the R-JPEG images, you need to preserve the EXIF/XMP metadata and convert the calibrated images into UINT16 TIFF format (e.g. expand the calibrated temperature values into 0~65535 by T*100 + 27315) in order for all ODM stages to be working.
