Processing suddenly takes over 20 times longer

a few days ago WebODM started taking way longer to process a set.

I checked by rerunning a set that used to take an hour and it took 11 to process. I reinstalled my entire system POP os from fresh install. It is still taking an eternity. Please help was there an update to webodm or docker?

Welcome!

Both softwares are continually updating, so quite likely there were updates.

On our end, we made changes back in WebODM 3.x from 2.x that greatly increase the quality of reconstruction, but might make processing take longer on memory-constrained systems.

You can try using --skip-pc-geometric to see if it behaves closer to what you’re used to.

sry for this but ive always used the web version

are you saying that ii should run ./webodm.sh --skip-pc-geometric start

Can i revert to the 2.X version?

You can add the parameters when editing the Task options. No need to use the terminal.

You are free to modify your docker compose file to pull an older image, but it is an unsupported configuration.

I tried the flag and it seems to be the same.

I’m currently 2 hrs in to a dataset with only 141 images its still the matching pprocess.

I’m includeing my system specs.

Do all you images have geographic data included or is the log full of messages which include references to WORDS?

It’s all referencing words

Then the issue is unlikely to be an update but a data problem. Make sure you have geographic data in the tags of your images. Check the first 100 lines of the log: you’ll see warnings that tell you which images are missing the tags.

I’m processing the same data set i procesed already once before

what took an hours now takes all day

I’ve been looking at the system monitor and i noticed that ionly 2 cores seem to be doing anything during the matching process. I don’t know what it was utilizing before but maybe thatt has something to do with it? the other thing is that the options for processeing are missing many ofthe default configs that sed to be there. Before the system crash there were other options like multiband and high resolution buildings. Maybe that gives us a clue

This is common for matching and probably not a change in behavior. I’ve got directions on the forum for running a specific older version. I’d link to it directly, but I’m on my phone at the moment, so the search will need to be yours. But you can use those directions to do a direct comparison between versions.

But first things first: can you show the first few lines of the logs (maybe 2-300) from the fast version and the current slow running version? That would help us discern what the issue might be.

We’ve streamlined our default Task Presets, so this isn’t something to be concerned over.

i do not have the fast version anymore it was on the same computer that i reloaded. but here are the first 400 from the current slow matching task

We didn’t used to support processing video until very recently.

Take the mp4 files out of your Task upload and try again.

I just wanted to make it known that by removing the MP4 files processing dropped down to 22 minutes. Thank you so much for your help. I also am very interested in investigating the possibilities of using video directly now that i know its an option

Glad to hear that you are doing well!

Video can be convenient, but it is also often underwhelming due to lower resolution, aggressive compression, and sometimes more severe Rolling Shutter Distortion.

If your platform supports flight planning, I personally would always choose images over video :person_shrugging:
