Important Code Update: Fix PoTree 3D Model Not Showing Up

As of today (2022-05-06), WebODM’s codebase has been updated with two fixes to PoTree that should prevent the much dreaded 3D Model/Point Cloud not showing issue.

To recap, the issue was introduced this past year and seemingly randomly makes it so PoTree starts empty, requiring the user to click the View Full Extent button to see the model.

If you’re running WebODM via Docker, make sure you grab your updates! Fixes for WebODM for Windows native will be out some point later through the Update menu.

Uh oh… I’ve got no visible 3D model/PC at all in the latest Windows build, downloaded today.
Clicking on ‘Full Extent’ doesn’t make it appear.

It looks fine in Meshlab though.

v1.9.14 Build 58 (if you have it) predates this fix and had the fixes for broken elevation map plugin only.

This fix will be out in a later Windows build.

Yes, that’s what I installed yesterday, but it made it worse, as in it isn’t possible to view the PC or textured model at all now.

I’ve looked into this and opened Cannot see EPT point cloud on Windows native · Issue #1182 · OpenDroneMap/WebODM · GitHub

I’m going to temporarily put back ODM 2.8.0 and release a new build for Windows, until this can be fixed. The fix should bring back the point cloud models (you’ll need to reprocess them from the georeferencing step if you used the latest ODM version to process them).

That didn’t work, it sat there loading images for ages until I cancelled it.
Then I tried from Texturing, which also failed to do anything.
Next I tried from Meshing, which appears to have made it start from from the beginning again, ie Extacting ROOT-SIFT features.
