Ground level vs takeoff location reference

What would yield best results on ODM processing using ground level as a reference or using takeoff location?

The difference for those confused ground level as a reference will have to drone automatically adjust height based on ground level, takeoff reference will not adjust based on hills etc.

Thanks for any replies!

If you’re using something like Ardupilot and can do terrain following, that should yield more consistent data across variable terrain.

Yup! Terrain following ensures you have close to the same ground sampling distance across the whole survey area. The only disadvantage is that the varying topography below a non-terrain following flight can help with camera calibration parameters for more difficult datasets, so you don’t get to leverage that feature. But with a good flight plan and/or even better a good fixed lens, this isn’t a needed feature.

That’s what I was thinking. Thank you!
