GPS position not available for FP_07_DSC00953

Hi,

I am trying to process a set of images for which coordinates are visible in the exif data but for which Webodm returns the following message:
“GPS position not available for FP_07_DSC00953”

I am not sure what is happening here.

Just to be more precise the set of photos contains 1069 images and the same message is returned for each one of them.

The total set of photos is more than 25 000 photos.

I can share part of the flight 7 which I was trying to process as a trial run for the bigger set.

That flight 7 is already 1069 photos amounting to 10.4 GB

I think the problem is the same in the entire set, so maybe I could send you 2GB worth of photos as a sample through something like Wetransfer?

Let me know what is the easiest way to share it with you

A cluster of maybe 50 photos should be fine, especially if you can include that image above (FP_07_DSC00953) in that cluster.

Any means you can share with is fine, though we do have our DroneDB.app which is well-suited for this type of sUAS data sharing and visualization.

That FP_07_DSC00953 was just an example. The exact same message is returned for every photos of the set, while coordinates are showing in the exif data.
I am processing the set on a 64GB ram computer in my office and it has been running for the past 67 hours now.

Gordon is right. This will almost certainly lead to a crash and taking longer. You do not need to use this :slight_smile:

Hmmm… Something is odd.

This isn’t the issue, but you should disable your camera from auto-rotating images when capturing. You have a mix of images with the wide axis parallel to the flight line and perpendicular to the flight line… This will severely mess up your flight planning as your overlap/sidelap assume a fixed camera orientation to the flight line.

The images lack GPSAltitudeRef and GPSLongitudeRef tags, making the GPS position ambiguous (is it north/south , west/east?).

As an improvement, future versions of ODM will guess it’s north and east, although this might not be correct.

Make sure the images have the proper tags.

Sorry I am a real newbie but I can’t find those tags (GPSLatitudeRef, GPSLongitudeRef) neither in the exiftool display nor in the properties of the files.
They should be there with a blank instead of N, S, E, W? Or do I also have to add these tags with exiftool in the metadata of the files ?

Yes, you’ll need to add them using exiftool.
