Cannot process dataset using new 3.0.0 engine

I have not been able to process any data since the latest up date (WebODM 1.9.16) with engine 3.0.0 and get the same error message “Cannot process dataset”. I have used 4 different sets of images assuming perhaps some of my images have errors.

I successfully processed a set of images back on November 2, 2022 but when I made a copy and tried to reprocess the same images I got the same error message “Cannot process dataset”. The only commonality between the processing set the succeeded and the set that failed is update build version.

Am I correct in assuming that there is something in the update build version that has caused these errors to happen. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try next?

If you have issues with the new version/update:

  1. Share your task console log
  2. Share a link to your input images

Also something to try:

  1. Make a copy of C:\WebODM\resources\app\apps\ODM\SuperBuild\install\bin\OpenMVS\DensifyPointCloud.exe
  2. Replace it with this application (from the previous 2.9.2 release) DensifyPointCloud.exe - Google Drive
  3. Try to rerun the dataset. Does it work?

That worked! Thank you

Thanks for trying and confirming that it works with the previous binary.

I’m having a problem progressing pass this same point on every test I’ve tried with the new build. Could someone review the logs and advise please.

Is it failing or stopping? I’m not seeing anything helpful at the end of the logs.

It just hangs there, Saijin. I have not had this issue before.

Any activity on CPU, GPU, HDD, or RAM?

It might be stuck working in virtual memory, how much RAM do you have?

Hi Saijin, when I open the diagnostic page all I see is the storage available.

Hi Gordon I have 32gb ram. When i process through Lightning the project is completed in just over two hours.

Lightning has a lot more RAM than your machine, which is consistent with it taking so long with nothing apparently happening for you.

You could use task manager (Windows) to see if the HDD is working hard.

Thanks for that Gordon, the 929 image ortho took just over 10 hours to complete. never had one take that long before. It was interesting to watch the task manager during the process. CPU went to 90%, Memory used 35% and GPU 12%. Would there be any reason to increase the ram at all? I was thinking of putting through some composite images from different flights to make a more detailed map, probably over 2000 images.

More RAM is always better for larger jobs

See this post: Missing Part of an Image - #47 by Gordon

Check the green memory usage- I have 96GB RAM, and this was for only 211 images, albeit with a lot of detail, so huge numbers of features.

Thanks Gordon, appreciate the learning experience.

I also had the problem as originally described and solved with Piero’s suggestion.
